KADAPA: Pregnant women should avail of GVK EMRI 108 ambulance service and get admitted in hospitals at least two to three days before the scheduled date of delivery, district manager of GVK EMRI 108 Services Siva Kumar said on Saturday.

Quoting WHO statistics at a news conference on the eve of International Mothers' Day, Mr. Siva Reddy said lack of proper transportation facilities to reach hospitals and using autorickshaws and other modes of transport to go to hospitals at the fag end was resulting in the death of nearly 2 lakh pregnant women an year. In considerable number of cases, pregnant women were delivering in autos en route, which endangered the lives both mother and child, he said.
