e-journals and other e-resources must be used for automation of libraries, said Andhra University Vice-Chancellor B. Satyanarayana while participating in the 43 {+r} {+d} National Library Week programme at the Dr. V.S. Krishna Library of Andhra University on Saturday.

He explained the university's measures like upgrading the 2 Mbps leased line to 10Mbps and engaging a 1 GB leased line.

Honorary Librarian K. Somasekhara Rao said circulation automation would commence in the second week of December.

Data base

A project was taken up to develop a data base for books of 100 years old and to preserve them in a separate hall. Deputy Librarian G. Babu Rao and others participated.


Students of Chaitanya Degree and PG College for Women at Gajuwaka won prizes in the competitions organised by the District Branch Library at Gajuwaka as part of the National Library Week, according to its Principal M.V. Ramana Rao here.

Sunitha Patnaik won first prize in elocution and second prize in rangoli competitions. Abdul Fathima and P. Neelaveni won first prizes in essay writing and rangoli respectively while Prameela Devi and K. Ramalakshmi picked up second prizes in elocution and singing respectively.

The college management, faculty and students congratulated the prize winners.
