Minister for Major Irrigation P. Sudarshan Reddy has warned the authorities concerned against the misuse of water released from the Nizamsagar Project and asked them to ensure that drinking water is supplied till July.

Only three tmc water

After visiting the project to observe the water levels on Sunday, he told the media persons that as there wasn’t sufficient water in the Singur project, the district could get only three tmc ft of water in the current rabi season.

“If another 1.50 tmc ft had been available, it would have been sufficient for irrigation and drinking water,” he said.

Mr. Sudarshan Reddy instructed the officials to see to it that water was not used for irrigation purpose after filling tanks.

On the issue of sand transportation, he asked the Deputy SP, Bodhan, not to allow sand shifting unless transporters showed proper permits for using the material for the government works.

He took assistant engineer Krishnamoorthy to task for the untidy condition of parks near the project. Engineer-in-chief, Prakash, and other officials accompanied the Irrigation Minister.
