Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman Ajeya Kallam inaugurated the newly-built auditorium named after Samba Murthy, former Chairman of VPT, on the occasion of International Women's Day. Speaking at a meeting held to mark the occasion, he said women employees had a dominant role in the achievements of the port. Men were no match to the services attended to by women employees in professions like teaching and nursing. He said, of late, women empowerment had become a reality. DIG of Police Soumya Mishra, who was the chief guest, praised the contribution of women for development of society. She said working women performed various roles. Port Vice-Chairman G.V.L. Satya Kumar expressed satisfaction over operation of an aircraft from Delhi to Atlanta with 850 women passengers with an all-women crew on the occasion of International Women's Day. VPT Mahila Sangham president G. Sheela said the country could do better only when the status of women improved significantly. Hemalatha Rao, Hindi Officer of VPT presided. On the occasion, the women employees of VPT contributed Rs.10,000 to True Orphanage Home, Karasa. Various competitions were conducted for them.
