On first day, 92 per cent applicants appear for exam

Andhra University Common Entrance Test (AUCET) 2013 commenced here and at eight other cities on Friday. Admission into AU’s post-graduate courses and five-year integrated programmes in sciences will be done on the basis on ranks obtained in the test.

Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju, who visited a couple of examination centres in the city, said AUCET 2013 was the first entrance test being conducted by a university in the country for the academic year 2013-14.

On the first day tests were conducted for admission into Microbiology, Statistics, Botany, Physics, Mathematics, Biochemistry, Social Work, Commerce and M.Ed. courses. All tests put together, the attendance was 92 per cent, Director of AU Directorate of Admissions O. Aniel Kumar informed. Of the 5,057 candidates applied for admission into science courses, 4,658 had appeared. In case of arts and commerce courses 3,789 out of 4,120 registered for the tests had appeared.

AUCET 2013 is being conducted at 11 centres in Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Bhimavaram, Vijayawada and Guntur. Tests will be conducted in different subjects all the centres on Saturday and Monday, and only in Visakhapatnam on April 30 and May 1 in a few subjects.

The AU Engineering Entrance Test 2013, for admission into B.E. Engg. (aircraft engineering), B.E. (electro-mechanical engineering) and five-year integrated dual degree programmes will be held on May 3 in Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Vijayawada.

Prof. Aniel Kumar said entrance test for rural development programme was not being held as the number of applications received was less and the admission would be done based on the marks scored by the candidates in the qualifying degree examination. The candidates would be called for interview directly.

Admission into B.Ed. special education (MR) programme of Dr. Ambedkar University, Srikakulam would be done through EdCET 2013 and not AUCET 2013, he added.

Along with Prof. Aniel Kumar, Associate Directors of Admission G. Nageswara Rao, Vazeer Mohamood and Ch. Appa Rao also went round the examination centres.
