Robs woman, son at Attapur junction in Rajendranagar

Duo returning home after withdrawing money from a bank

HYDERABAD: An attention diversion gang struck again in the twin cities on Tuesday, when they robbed a woman and her son of Rs 4 lakh near Attapur junction in Rajendranagar. They told the duo travelling by car that petrol was leaking and when the occupants stopped to check, one of them snatched the cash bag.

Chandra Charan, 25, and his mother, Shiromani, 55, were returning home in their Maruti Alto after withdrawing the money from a bank in Kakatiya Nagar branch around 11.30 a.m.

The two strangers riding a motorcycle drove alongside and told Charan that fuel was leaking from the car’s petrol tank. A puzzled Charan immediately pulled over, police said. The strangers also stopped their bike and while one sat on the two-wheeler, the other walked up to Charan who got down to find out what had happened. Meanwhile, his mother too stepped out leaving the bag containing Rs. 4 lakh in the passenger seat.

Even as Shiromani and her son had a look at the tank and found no leakage of petrol, the stranger snatched the cash bag, jumped on to the motorbike and both sped away.
