The attack on former Rajya Sabha member of the CPI(M), P. Madhu, allegedly by Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) activists even as he was reportedly on a party programme in the old city area of Hyderabad has come in for a sharp attack from the State and the district leaders of the party.
Party district secretary K. Kumar Reddy and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) district secretary K. Murali have in a statement said the fact that Madhu was often being targeted for such attacks allegedly by the MIM party cadres clearly reflects the malice they bore towards him for his pro-active role in the old city area.
Strongly condemning the incident, the leaders also called upon the government to take stringent action against those who were behind the attack.
Meanwhile, CITU secretary K. Murali has appealed to the munificent public for liberal donation to ensure succour to the family of trade union leader, Muralimohan, who was killed in an alleged police action recently at Yanam and so also to those who were badly injured in the police firing.
Mr. Murali said in a statement that donors can contribute to the ‘Yanam Solidarity Fund' specially created for the purpose and send their cheques, demand drafts, money in the name of CITU, Chittoor district unit.
