Strange are the ways of doctors at District Headquarters Hospital here. A patient admitted to the hospital for bleeding injuries on head on Saturday and physically present on bed has been termed as “absconding” in the medical case sheet. The incident has become known after P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, TDP polit bureau member and MLA visited the hospital to enquire about the injured person’s health on Sunday. M. Narayannapadu, TDP polling agent, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday for bleeding injury on head.
A bogus voter belonging to the Congress assaulted Mr. Narayannapadu, at a polling station at Jonnavalasa on Saturday with a stone for preventing him from voting. After TDP district president D. Jagadish and other leaders staged a dharna at the polling station, police had registered a medico-legal case. The polling agent was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
To the dismay of Mr. Ashok, who visited the hospital this morning, found in the patient’s case sheet as “absconding” when he was physically present on the bed. Expressing his ire at the doctors for negligence, Mr. Ashok squatted on the floor of the ward and staged a dharna demanding action against the responsible person. Following an assurance from K. Sitarama Raju, superintendent of the hospital, for an inquiry into it and action, Mr. Ashok called off his protest.
When asked, hospital Superintendent Sitarama Raju said staff nurses searched for the patient for about 30 minutes and later complained to the duty doctor. However, he said he would inquire into it.
