With the Telugu Desam relegated to the third position in the first phase of elections to panchayats held in Parvathipuram revenue division on July 23, P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, the party Polit Bureau member, seems to have vowed for a good show in his Assembly constituency in the second phase due on July 27. According to figures available with the local media, the Congress won 124, YSRC 99, TDP 84, and others 41 in the Phase-I elections.
Mr. Ashok, who is the MLA, has been campaigning ostensibly for the first time for candidates supporting the party in panchayats. On Thursday, he visited Duppada panchayat and its hamlet Chillapeta. Party workers accorded him warm welcome. His visit to the panchayat evoked good response from voters. During the last four days, he visited Gollalapeta, Biyyalapeta, Raakodu, Gunkalam, Chelluru panchayats for campaigning. However, a senior party leader told this correspondent that the MLA “paid visit to the panchayats on the request of party cadres.”
Addressing gathering at Duppada, Mr. Ashok attributed power tariff hike to coal scam and criticised the government policies for rising prices of essential commodities, education and primary health. The party leaders P. Ramakrishna, S. Trinadh, and others accompanied him.
Meanwhile, Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy, MLC and DCC president along with party leaders Yadla Ramana Murty and Yadla Adi Raju too had campaigned for his party supporters at Gunkalam, Dwarapudi, Kondakarakam and Duppada.
