Appeal for safeguarding of 29 “highly neglected professions”
NALGONDA: Leaders of Artisans Coordination Committee on Monday demanded that the State Government appoint an experts committee to recommend measures to safeguard 29 kinds of “highly neglected professions.”
Expressing grave concern over their pathetic condition across the State, artisans staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate and raised slogans highlighting their demands.
Later they submitted a memorandum to the Collector M. Purushottam Reddy in his chambers. Addressing the protesters, committee district convener Bhupathi Venkateswarlu and the co-convener Konduri Satyanarayana alleged that the Government has failed to come to the rescue “in this hour of crisis.”
“Budgetary allocation for the artisans is highly negligible and there is no effort from the Government to protect the age-old professions,” Mr.Venkateswarlu said adding that the committee would take up agitations to bring the Government to its knees.
Mr. Venkateswarlu found fault with the Government for not appointing an expert committee to study the problems of the artisans and also to come out with some solutions.
“We have submitted many representations for the appointment of a commission but of no use. With the extinction of professions, many people either commit suicide or die of starvation,” Mr. Satyanarayana said.
