HYDERABAD: The Niloufer Hospital authorities are lobbying hard to convert the hospital into a National Centre of Excellence in Paediatric Medicine with 18 paediatric sub-specialities, one-of-its-kind in the country. Along with the upcoming Rajiv Intensive Care Block for Maternal and Child Health, the proposed new centre of excellence would be able to handle the expected rise of patient inflow in the next decade.
Already, the construction activity of the Rs. 27 crore Rajiv Intensive Care Block for Maternal and Child Health is underway. The out-patient block, located opposite of the in-patient block, was recently razed to the ground to make way for the Rajiv Intensive Block.
The proposed centre for excellence in paediatrics is a Rs. 190 crore project and a detailed project report has been sent for approval to National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), which is already funding the upcoming Rajiv intensive block in the hospital. NRHM is spending Rs. 20 crore for the construction for the Rajiv intensive block. The total bed strength of the hospital will cross 1,200 beds.
