VISAKHAPATNAM: Agitated over survey to extend mining of bauxite in more areas by APMDC the district executive and council of CPI have called for 48-hour ‘Manyam' (agency) bandh from June 25.

Bauxite mining would hit the livelihood of the tribals and destroy the environment in the Eastern Ghats, CPI district secretary J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy told reporters on Sunday.

CPI city secretary A.J. Stalin, AP Girijan Sangham State president G. Demudu, district assistant secretaries Ch. Raghavendra Rao and B. Ramarajyam were present. Mr. Murthy said recently a team was sent to survey bauxite minerals in Pedabayalu area and sought the support of all parties to make Manyam bandh a success. He said they were totally opposed to mining by APMDC. The CPI leadership has decided to form all-party committees in Srikakulam nd Vizianagaram to press for formation of separate railway zone with headquarters at Vizag.
