WARANGAL: Tension prevailed at the Kazipet Chowrastha with Congress and TRS workers clashing over installation of late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's statue.

In the jostling, former MLA D. Vinay Bhaskar, who has been going around the town in connection with the TRS bandh since morning, fell unconscious.

The police had tough time controlling the crowd. Scores of TRS workers staged a demonstration at Kazipet police station protesting arrest of their cadre.

The Congress leaders wanted to install YSR's statue where the TRS earlier decided to build a Telangana Martyrs Memorial and put up a flexi board.

The Congress leaders built a podium overnight ahead of Jagan's tour.

The situation aggravated when Congress MLC Konda Muralidhar Rao reached the spot. The police prevailed over and dispersed warring groups.

However, the TRS workers led by Mr. Vinay Bhaskar stay put preventing Congressmen from going ahead with their plans. The police promised to take action against the Congress workers who built the podium without permission. However, Mayor E. Swarna, who also reached the spot, said they had permission to erect the statue and would go ahead with their plans.

TRS bandh peaceful

Meanwhile, the bandh called by the TRS and other separate Telangana organisations demanding cancellation of the proposed ‘Odarpu Yatra' (consoling tour) passed off peacefully. APSRTC buses were off the roads and shops and establishments remained closed for the day.

Since dawn separate Telangana activists patrolled the roads to enforce the bandh in Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet towns.

They alleged that the tour was aimed at belittling the ongoing movement.
