HYDERABAD: Lok Satta Party (LSP) on Friday criticised the government for continuing with liquor auctions despite the harmful impact of alcohol on nearly 75 lakh families in the State, according to a press release here.

Since shops were auctioned to the highest bidders, party leaders said that shop owners often increase their profits through unauthorised ‘belt shops'.

They told media persons that a survey by Lok Satta had found over one lakh belt shops in the state.

In a letter to Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, they requested the Central government to empower Health Departments to oversee alcohol-related issues.
