TIRUMALA: The Tirumala temple, which reeled under heavy turnout of pilgrims during the weekend had a respite on Monday when the crowd was moderate.
It is estimated that over 1.60 lakh devotees had darshan during the last two days. The temple earnings through the ‘hundi' was more than Rs. 3 crore.
All the arrangements which the TTD management had made to cater to the summer rush were thrown out of gear during the last two days. Devotees seeking accommodation were subjected to severe hardships as there were no vacant cottages and guest houses.
The TTD immediately enforced the ‘Maha laghu' darshan inside the sanctum sanctorum where devotees have to see the presiding deity from a distance.
