Allege ‘partisan' attitude in dealing with old city violence
HYDERABAD: The BJP workers staged demonstrations all over the State on Saturday in protest against the alleged partisan attitude of police in dealing with the recent communal violence in old city.
In the State capital, several senior leaders participated in the dharna near the office of the City Police Commissioner A.K. Khan at Basheerbagh.
The police diverted traffic on the route, resulting in traffic jams in the surrounding arteries for nearly two hours.
BJP State president G. Kishan Reddy, his predecessor B. Dattatreya and senior leaders N. Indrasena Reddy and K. Laxman were among 850 people arrested by police on the occasion.
Similar demonstrations were also held near Collectorates in all district headquarters. The local units of the party submitted memoranda to Collectors after the programme.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kishan Reddy in a letter to Chief Minister K. Rosaiah demanded ex-gratia of Rs five lakh each to three persons killed in the incidents.
He alleged that the government did not extend any relief to several people who were financially affected due to destruction of their property and vehicles.
