Changes in temperatures, failing environmental standards and the need for enhancing the green cover to an expanding city has been an issue of concern.

Roundtable conferences discuss and debate the issue, funds are announced and programmes aimed at afforestation are promised at regular intervals.

However, at the same time, trees too are felled in and around the city without paying much heed to these concerns and the practice goes on.

The recent episode in which twenty four trees were just chopped off in the city goes to reiterate the gap in what is preached and what actually is practised.
