HYDERABAD: With growing cases of husbands being at the receiving end, it is time Domestic Violence (DV) Act extended to men without any gender bias, said several members in the Legislative Council on Tuesday.

The suggestion though in all concern for such hapless men was raised by Basava Punnaiah (Congress) in the right earnest, it provided some lighter moments in the House. When Botcha Satyanarayana was responding to a question raised by Majji Sharada and Rajyalakshmi (Congress) about impact of DV Act on women who were victims of mental, physical harassment in providing them relief and justice, Mr. Punnaiah said the Act should also be made applicable to male victims of domestic violence.

The Minister said that while the member might have raised a pertinent issue, the government did not receive a single complaint from any male spouse. He assured the members , that government would be sensitive to such complaints too.
