The Drug Control Assistant Director of Rajahmundry seeks, in a novel way, to wean people away from gutka, khaini etc.
Rajahmundry: Bumper offers, mega offers and special discounts, lucky dips are common now-a-days by business establishments. Under this, they offer articles, clothes, car, bikes etc.
Similarly, as part of a novel campaign, K.S. Satyanarayana, Assistant Director, Drug Control Administration, Rajahmundry, has released two posters.
The title of the first poster is “mega offer”.
Instead of a negative campaign on gutka, khaini and cigarette -- three health hazards, the Drugs Control Director-General favoured a positive campaign on them.
Accordingly, Mr. Satyanarayana designed a poster which carries a sub-title “take gutka, khaini-smoke cigarette” and win prizes as per your wish.
First prize for this competition is cancer, second prize is kidney-related diseases, third prize is heart disease, fourth is related to teeth and fifth is cough. ‘Bumper offer' made every week is direct ticket to “yamaloka” . Last date for this offer is-‘as long as you survive'.
Consolation prizes are also there. On each packet of gutka, khaini or cigarette one more disease is free of cost.
For this ‘mega offer' function, the department has made special arrangements also.
The stage is set at ‘burial ground'.
The poster mentioned boozing also and notes that all the offers apply to alcoholics as well.
According to Mr. Satyanarayana, in first phase they have printed only 200 posters and demand for the posters have increased when his staff pasted them near auto stands, market yards, slum areas and dabhas where truck drivers usually take gutka and khaini and alcohol.
He said his Directorate issued another poster, positively, asking customers to observe the date of expiry of medicine, not to take alcohol when a person uses certain drugs.
The second poster also advices people not to use ear or eye drops after one month of removing its seal and sry syrups within seven days.
