VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra University Vice-Chancellor B. Satyanarayana has laid the foundation stone for new block of Geology Department.

The western side block will have two floors. It will have additional space for classrooms and laboratories.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was greeted with `poornakumham' later performed the puja in the presence of P. Rajendra Prasad, Principal, College of Science and Technology, P.V.G.D. Prasad Reddy, Registrar, C. Kasipathi, Head and Chairman of Department of Geology and others.

Bright future

The Department of Geology started five-year MS (geology) course from 2007-08. The present strength of Geology Department crossed 300 and it is expected to go beyond 400 by 2011-12 -- the largest earth science departments in the world as a whole. “The students have very bright future and are absorbed in many national and international geo-scientific bodies of exploration, mining, ore dressing, petroleum and natural gas, groundwater, tunnelling and many such wide spectrum of employment.” Prof. Kasipathi said.
