Party activists demand suspension of Kodangal Sub-Inspector
Feel that SI’s ‘negligence’ in providing protection to party worker Anjalaiah had led to his murder
Anjalaiah was allegedly attacked by the Congress workers at Husnabad a few days ago
MAHBUBNAGAR: Tension prevailed at the mandal headquarters of Kodangal on Monday following a dharna and rasta roko by Telugu Desam activists in front of the police station along with the body of a party worker Anjalaiah (35).
The demonstration was led by elected public representatives A. Revanth Reddy (Kodangal), M. Mahender Reddy (Tandur) and K. Dayakar Reddy (Maktal).
The activists demanded the suspension of Kodangal Sub-Inspector Danam alleging that his ‘negligence’ in providing protection to Anjalaiah had led to his murder. The TDP leaders said Anjalaiah had requested the Sub-Inspector for protection as he was afraid of being attacked by Congressmen.
But the police officer had failed to do so, allegedly bowing to pressure from Congress leaders, especially Zilla Parishad vice-chairman Krishna. They also demanded an exgratia of Rs.5 lakh and a job to one of the family members of the deceased.
A few days ago TDP activist Anjalaiah was attacked allegedly by the Congress workers at Husnabad, the native village of the Zilla Parishad vice-chairman.
He succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Hyderabad and the body was brought to Kodangal in the afternoon.
The TDP activists withdrew their protest only after Superintendent of Police G. Sudhir Babu rushed to Kodangal and assured them that he would take action against the Sub-Inspector after an enquiry. The other demands would be communicated to government.
