VISAKHAPATNAM: With Valentine’s Day round the corner, the magic of love seems all set to make the world go round - and sharing the ride are some money-spinners too. Taking a cue from their Western counterparts, stores and hotels here have started regarding Valentine’s Day as an annual mega-event with a potential for manifold increase in sales. Lifestyle and retail stores have been decked up with red hearts, flowers, balloons and valentine greetings. Shops are brimming with offers and discount sales, all in an attempt to cash in on the V-Day hype. Going by the initial craze, most shop owners expect a manifold increase in their sales and revenue on Valentine’s Day, which they consider to be the biggest festival after Diwali and New Year. Pages Book Centre has introduced more than 800 varieties of V-Day greeting cards and offering 25 per cent cash off on them. With chocolates being one of the most popular gifts on V-Day, Pages has brought in a special variety of melting chocolates called ‘Chocomore’ and 20 per cent cash discount on this brand of chocolate for the special occasion. Apart from this, customers will get attractive gifts on purchase of V-Day gifts. “With the economy showing a healthy upward graph this year, we are expecting good sales this V-Day. Initial response has been encouraging,” said Mr. Anil of Pages.
For those looking for a special evening out with their loved ones, the scenic location of Vihar at Rushikonda can be the right place. Vihar is organising a day-long programme with live rock band performances on V-Day. To make the evening memorable, a V-Day special menu will be dished out. Visitors can win lots of attractive prizes by participating in fun games at the venue.
At Darling’s Paradise, flashing roses with the recorded message of ‘I Love You’, a whole range of V-Day chocolates and the red velvety feather roses are the highlights. The shop has more than 500 varieties of cards with a special attraction of a cute neck-chain greeting card. V-Day soft toys and colourful scented candles are a raging hit among the young crowd. Says Yeshwant of Darling’s Paradise, “The response has been terrific so far and we are expecting a good crowd on V-Day.”
