Kadapa police to launch special drive to check atrocities against women
Rowdies will be counselled and in extreme case rowdysheet will be opened against them
Toll free number will be manned by woman police official; identity to be kept confidential
KADAPA: The Kadapa police launched a drive against eve teasing and ‘rowdyism’ as part of efforts to eradicate the social evils, Kadapa SP D.S. Chauhan said on Tuesday.
A round-the-clock helpline with toll-free phone number 1091 was launched to deal with cases pertaining to women, the SP announced at a press conference. Girls can lodge their complaints about eve-teasing incidents and the name of trouble-makers, place of offence on the toll free number which would be manned by a woman police official. The names of the complainants will be kept confidential.
Warning those resorting to eve-teasing, Mr. Chauhan urged them to gauge the hardships their women family members would face if anyone else behaved with them in a similar manner. Eve teasers would be counselled in the first instance, booked in a case for a second offence and a rowdy-sheet would be opened on them on getting a third complaint. Names and phone numbers of police officials would be displayed at places where college and school buses pick up girl students and vigilance would be enhanced at girls’ colleges.
Referring to the ongoing traffic control drive, he said 22 payment-free parking slots were identified in major towns in the district including 10 in Kadapa. Over 2,087 cases were booked for violation of traffic rules, 1,300 vehicles carrying fancy registration number plates contravening the specifications were seized, he said. Meanwhile, the women’s wing of Praja Rajyam staged a demonstration before Mahatma Gandhi statue condemning the abduction and brutal murder of Vaishnavi in Vijayawada and growing atrocities on women in the State.
Praja Rajyam district president B. Hariprasad and the women’s wing president Y.R. Udayasri led the protest.
