Idea is to ensure smooth flow of traffic and safety of motorists and pedestrians
HYDERABAD: The government has imposed speed limits for different categories of vehicles plying on the roads in Hyderabad Police Commissionerate jurisdiction from Saturday.
The speed limit for light motor vehicles, including cars, and two-wheelers is 50 kmph. While it is 35 kmph for autorickshaws, auto trolleys and power tillers, a speed limit of 40 kmph has been fixed for heavy motor vehicles, medium goods vehicles, all transport vehicles and mini-buses. The idea is to ensure smooth flow of traffic and safety of motorists and pedestrians, the Traffic Police Additional Commissioner, N. Hanumantha Rao, said. The restrictions were imposed after examining similar rules being followed in other metros like Mumbai and Delhi. The aspects like average speed of vehicles in the city were taken into consideration. “Fifty kilometres per hour is fairly good speed for cars and two-wheelers plying on the city roads. We’ll take action against violators monitoring speed of vehicles using speed guns,” he said. Presently, the city police have one speed gun. Soon, more would be procured.
