GUNTUR: Several distinguished personalities from various walks of life at Bapatla recalled the life and times of ‘Andhra Ratna' Duggirala Gopalakrishna at a meeting commemorating his 121st birth anniversary. The meeting was organised by Forum for Better Bapatla.

Speaking on the occasion, Expert Committee member, A.P Biodiversity Board P.C Sai Baba said Gopalakrishna was a true Gandhian and played a crucial role in freedom struggle.

He forced the nation's attention by championing the Chirala-Perala movement, in which he led non-cooperation movement.

Stating that Gopalakrishna was the first leader from Andhra to be appointed secretary of the All India Congress Committee, Mr. Sai Babu reminded that he had also worked in Bapatla taluk office for a short period and added he was the alumnus of Bapatla Municipal High School.
