A documentary ’Pranadata’ screened on the college campus
REPALLE (GUNTUR Dt.): All students need to know their blood group and understand the importance of voluntary blood donation, renowned blood transfusion expert Guthikonda Varaprasad said emphasising the importance of donor information system.
At a day-long Free Blood Group Testing and Awareness Camp organised by the Medical and Cultural Association jointly with Friends To Support Organisation running the www.friends2support.org website, Dr. Varaprasad and MCA secretary said that there were many myths regarding blood donation, which the students need to clear and come to rescue of their friends and relatives by making a timely donation.
A documentary ‘Pranadata’ produced by www.friends2support.org was shown on the college premises and founder of the website Sk.K. Shareef said that there was a vast gap between need and supply (5 crore units to 40 lakhs) as far as blood was concerned, which could be wiped out and life given to some more people.
“A unit of blood can save three lives as these days instead of whole blood components were being used by separating them using modern machines in blood banks,” Mr. Shareef of Hyderabad said.
Mass blood grouping camp was conducted later at which more than 200 students their groups tested and promised to get themselves registered on the website to help their friends and relatives.
For many it was an eye opener as they learnt some salient points of Voluntary Blood Donation.
The College Correspondent Shareef, Biology Department head Pramila and other staff participated in the awareness programme.
