Tamil Nadu Governor Konijeti Rosaiah was honoured with Bezawada Gopala Reddy Award at a function held at Town Hall here on Sunday.
Finance Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy, Nellore Rural legislator Anam Vivekananda Reddy, Nellore Urban legislator M. Sridhar Krishna Reddy and scores of other dignitaries in the town were present on the occasion.
Delivering his speech, Mr. Rosaiah praised Bezawada Gopala Reddy as an ideal politician and statesman whose leadership was a source of inspiration for many generations of politicians.
As the Chief Minister of Andhra State and as Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Gopala Reddy amply showed his capabilities and administrative acumen, he said.
Mr. Rosaiah said that when the Bezawada Gopala Reddy Award Committee approached him about the presentation of the award, he was a little hesitant thinking if he was a deserving person.
“But I finally accepted this award. It is my resolve that I must stand by the standards set by him,” he added.
Mr. Ramanarayana Reddy said that it is an honour for him and many others that Gopala Reddy Award was presented to a seasoned and political stalwart like Rosaiah. He said that Mr. Rosaiah’s wisdom and statesmanship would continue to be an inspiration for them.
Mr. Ramanarayana Reddy further said that both Gopala Reddy and Rosaiah served as successful Finance Ministers in the past.
The standards set by such leaders should be emulated in the bests interests of the State, he added.
Many dignitaries in the town and various people’s associations came together and felicitated Mr. Rosaiah on the occasion.
