HYDERABAD: AICC president Sonia Gandhi is expected to make a statement on the contentious Telangana issue during her day-long visit to the State on February 28.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is said to have told his Cabinet colleagues here on Tuesday that Ms. Gandhi, would refer to the Statehood issue when she addresses a rally at Secunderabad Parade Grounds. Replying to a query by Rural Development Minister G. Chinna Reddy on the issue, Dr. Reddy is believed to have told his colleagues that Ms. Gandhi would certainly make a statement on Telangana to allay apprehensions of the cadres.

Sources said she may refer to the constitution of a government-sponsored committee with members of the both the Houses of the Legislature to study the concerns on the formation of Telangana.

Two public meetings

Meanwhile, the APCC in a release said that Ms. Gandhi would address two public meetings on February 27 and 28. She would address a meeting of tribals in Kothagudem on February 27.

The next day, she would also address a public meeting at 4 p.m. in Secunderabad.
