VISAKHAPATNAM: The CPI led an occupation drive of land in ‘Bhoodan land’ in Survey nos. 66/1 and 66/2 at Paradesipalem on Sunday. Shouting slogans those led by CPI district secretary J.V. Satyanarayana Murthy planted red flags on the 13-acre land and occupied it. The CPI leader alleged that the Bhoodan land costing Rs.130 acres and located in ward No. 5 was occupied by a local MLA and his followers. Mr. Satyanarayana said the party had visited the encroached land on February 6 and demanded that it be distributed among the poor. However, there was no response from the government or officials. Hence the party had mobilized the poor and took up the occupation drive.
Mr. Satyanarayana Murthy said from Monday eligible beneficiaries would be identified and the land would be distributed through the CPI.
He also criticized the delay in taking back lands allotted to Satyam and Maytas in spite of the issue being taken to their notice. He warned that those lands would also be distributed among the poor by the CPI.
CPI city assistant secretary M. Paidiraju demanded a thorough inquiry into land encroachments by land-grabbers.
