The PSU sets up seven schools in Bangalore
Kakinada: Union Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallam Raju has appreciated the Bharat Electronic Limited’s contribution to national security and asserted that the Indian Air Force and Navy grew into some of the world’s best combat forces largely due to the transfer of advanced technologies by BEL. The BEL has been playing a major role in the development of indigenous warfare and its expertise has a few comparisons in the world, he has observed.
Speaking after inaugurating digital electronic and computer network laboratories provided by the BEL at Government Polytechnic for Women and Andhra Polytechnic College here on Sunday, Mr. Pallam Raju said the BEL was a premier institution that had been shaping the field of electronics in India and it reached a stage where its technologies and services were being utilized by several foreign countries. The BEL was one of the public sector units empanelled by the Ministry of Defence for production of electronic weapon systems and it was serving a beacon to other PSUs in application of science and technology both for Defence and civilian purposes.
BEL Chairman and Managing Director V.V.R. Sastry said the BEL was setting aside 1 per cent of its annual profits for corporate social responsibility activities, as a part of which it set up seven schools in Bangalore and another one exclusively for the physically challenged. The BEL would soon take a decision on extending its technical support to optical electronics course proposed to be introduced at JNTU, Kakinada, he added.
