HYDERABAD: Commitment, focussed preparation, hard work and bit of luck are a combination of factors that help Civil Services aspirants to come out with flying colours.

These opinions were expressed by the successful candidates including IAS, IPS and IRS officers at an interaction programme with the aspirants, organised by the Hyderabad Study Circle here on Sunday.

The officers tried to drive away the apprehensions that cracking Civils was the prerogative of those coming from best schools and fantastic academic background. There are several examples of people with normal educational backgrounds made it to the top through commitment and focussed approach. Bhaskar Katamneni, Zonal Commissioner (Central Zone), GHMC explained the preparation styles that go into success in the toughest exam of the country.

He reminded the well-attended gathering sometimes even the best candidates fail to make in all attempts. But that’s not the end of the world. “Many aspirants are already professionals in their own way so there is a good career waiting for them to explore,” he said.

K. Veera Raghava Rao, who cracked Civils in 2006 and presently posted as Assistant Collector, Madurai spoke on how mentally one has to be tough in the interview session. He gave tips on what kind of questions are asked and how the entire conversation takes shape.

Bala Latha, who is physically-challenged and yet cracked Civils to get into Indian Defence Services, gave lot of confidence to the aspirants Sadhu Narsimha Reddy, Ravi Kiran Edara and Sumidaa Devi– IRS officers boosted the morale of the aspirants . V. Nageswara Reddy, director in-charge, Hyderabad Study Circle was present.
