TUNI: Sunil Sarma, Director of the Municipal Administration, said on Saturday that the Centre had released Rs. 10,000 crpres for municipalities and corporations in the State.
Speaking to reporters after addressing a review meeting of municipal commissioners of East and West Godavari districts, he said top priority would be given to drinking water and roads. sHe said the State government had already released Rs.200 crores to municipalities for roads and asked the civic bodies to prepare action plan for drinking water to release funds accordingly. Mr. Sunil Sarma said the government had released Rs.1 crore to three Corporations and 14 municipalities in East and West Godavari districts to restore pipelines and other water supply works. Basing on population each municipality will get approximately Rs. 4 to 5 lakhs.
He asked the Commissioners to spend the amount immediately. All municipal employees would get salaries through treasuries from April 1, he said.
