HYDERABAD: A woman stole a baby boy from the Government Maternity Hospital at Nayapul on Monday.

The woman in her late 20s approached Samira, who was looking after her elder sister Yasmin’s three-day-old son, around 7.30 a.m. She asked Samira if milk was available to feed a baby. The stranger requested Samira to get her a glass of milk assuring to keep watch on the infant and gave some money.

Believing her, Samira left the place and returned a few minutes later. But the stranger disappeared with the baby boy by then. A worried Samira approached the security personnel and alerted the hospital staff but the stranger could not be traced.

Based on a complaint lodged by Yasmin, the police registered a case of kidnap and launched a hunt for the woman. Yasmin got admitted in the hospital on March 27 and gave birth to a baby boy the same evening.

Woman ends life

Anita, 24, ended her life by consuming poison in a hotel room at Ameerpet on Monday, the police said.

A note purportedly written by the woman stated that health problems drove her to resort to the extreme step. According to the Punjagutta SI, Swamy, the woman, living in a working women’s hostel at Ameerpet, checked into room no. 302 of Sitara Hotel at Ameerpet on Sunday evening.

The hotel staff grew suspicious as she did not come out till Monday morning and opened the room with duplicate key. The woman was lying dead on the cot. A half-empty pesticide bottle was also found in the room. The SI said the woman hailing from Warangal earlier worked with a private company in Mumbai.
