VIJAYAWADA: Is the Congress rethinking about the candidature of Appasani Sandeep (Nannu) from Mylavaram Assembly constituency?

Party activists opposing Mr. Sandeep’s candidature say there is rethinking over his candidature. A Congress leader who is supporting Gollapudi Sarpanch Bommasani Subba Rao, who filed his nomination as a rebel in Mylavaram on Saturday, said on Sunday that the Chief Minister enquired with Minister Koneru Ranga Rao about the issue.

Mr. Ranga Rao called on the Chief Minister during the day with a request to accommodate his daughter and Chatrai ZPTC member L. Tantiya Kumari in a reserved constituency in the district.

Supporters of Mr. Subba Rao said the party leadership would be constrained to change Mr. Sandeep in view of the TDP’s decision to field its district general secretary Devineni Umamaheswara Rao here. A political novice like Mr. Sandeep would not be able to take on a strong leader like Mr. Umamaheswara Rao, they argued. They were bolstered by the party’s decision to change the nominees in eight constituencies so far. Mylavaram could be next in the list, they said.
