VIZIANAGARAM: Jute workers affiliated to TNTUC, CITU and IFTU on Monday blocked traffic at the Collector Office Junction here seeking immediate payment of dearness allowance to 35,000 workers in the State, 20,000 of them are in the district.

According to K. Sanyasi Rao, IFTU general secretary, the jute managements have to pay the increased DA (July-December) on March 10 along with February salary. But, this time the managements reportedly felt that officials of the Bureau of Economics wrongly calculated the industrial workers’ price index that touched 275 points.

The price index is calculated for jute workers as per the price index prevailed at the tri-centres – Visakhapatnam, Kakinada and Guntur.

Each worker, on an average, would get Rs.435 per month, he said and added that the managements had even ignored the directive of the Additional Commissioner of Labour, Hyderabad on March 16 to release the DA to workers.
