Actor making every effort to step into his grandfather’s shoes

HYDERABAD: When Telugu film star Junior NTR kicks off his much awaited campaign for the TDP in Srikakulam on Thursday, he would try to step into the shoes of his illustrious grandfather and former Chief Minister, N. T. Rama Rao.

From using his own brand of “Chaitanya Ratham” made so famous by the party founder, donning his trademark campaign dress ‘khakis’ to emulating his legendary dialogue delivery, Junior NTR has been rehearsing hard during the last few days to relive his grandfather’s other role as a mass leader.

“He is bound to galvanise party supporters in his maiden campaign trail. They are sure to see and savour vintage NTR stuff, as Junior NTR is expected to make the most of his resemblance to his grandfather and come up with speeches laced with some of his powerful dialogues,” said Khambampati Ram Mohan Rao, campaign coordinator of the party.

‘Ratham’ ready

On Tuesday, Junior NTR took the ‘ratham’, a modified Eicher to TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s residence in Jubilee Hills and held closed-door discussion with him for a few minutes. The ‘ratham’ has images of NTR and Mr. Naidu on either side while his own on the rearside. NTR’s popular slogan, “Society is my temple and people are my Gods” is prominently inscribed at the top of these images.

TDP sources said the film actor would campaign for 40 days continuously on the ‘ratham’ and hope to even break the record of his grandfather.

“NTR accomplished the task when he was 60, while Junior NTR will do it at the age of 25”, said Mr. Rao. In the first phase he would spend three days each in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam.
