HYDERABAD: The activity of the Congress party for selection of candidates for Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in the forthcoming elections is all set to shift to New Delhi.

APCC president D. Srinivas, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, his close aide and Member of Parliament K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao completed preliminary scrutiny of the list of candidates for the first phase.

The list will be communicated to the party high command that is likely to commence final selection process from Monday in consultation with Dr. Reddy and Mr. Srinivas.

Mr. Srinivas will leave for New Delhi on Sunday while Dr. Reddy is expected to leave on Monday morning to hold deliberations with the party leadership about the choice of the candidates.

The party received over 8,000 applications from aspirants in addition to the lists of the suitable candidates forwarded by the District Congress Committees.

These were scrutinised and placed before the Pradesh Election Committee and the Chief Minister and the APCC president later fine-tuned the list incorporating the suggestions made by the PEC.
