Rosaiah’s committee to also examine demand for separate States in other regions
Panel to examine concerns of minorities in the proposed Telangana set-up
Another term of reference is to examine status of Hyderabad Metropolitan Area
HYDERABAD: The joint committee constituted to study the issues and concerns on formation of Telangana with Finance Minister K. Rosaiah as chairman will also examine the demand for separate States in other regions of the State.
The eight-member committee of MLAs and MLCs is understood to have been given nine terms of reference, the first of which is to identify the economic issues that propel Telangana sentiment and examine the facts relating to employment, exploitation of resources etc.”
The committee was constituted last month in pursuance of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s statement in the Assembly.
Terms of reference
Its terms of reference are largely in tune with the concerns that Dr. Reddy had expressed in the Assembly and at public meetings outside.
Sources said that the panel would examine the concerns of minorities in the proposed Telangana set-up. Another term of reference is to examine the status of Hyderabad Metropolitan Area taking into consideration the migrant population.
It has also been mandated to examine the concerns of migrant population in rest of Telangana (excluding Hyderabad).
The committee would look into the issues relating to Maoist and other terrorist activities.
Mr. Rosaiah’s panel would work out modalities for sharing of river waters vis-À-vis the existing situation.
It will study the infrastructure and service facilities – both State and Central governments – in the State capital, relocation and consequential issues.
It will work out a strategy for the overall and harmonious development of all regions in the event of formation of Telangana State.
The panel includes seven Congress legislators and a lone MIM MLA as the other opposition parties refused to associate themselves with the committee.
