Kakinada: Several senior citizens of the city, at a meeting held here on Monday, expressed resentment over the decision of the Government to locate the long awaited Godavari University at Rajahmundry instead of Kakinada.

President of the Ratepayers Association P.S.R.K. Thimmaji Rao, founder secretary of Sangeeta Vidwat Sabha Munuganti Srirama Murthy, retired official Rayavarapu Adinarayana Rao and retired DGM of NFCL Lakkaraju Seshu Kumari besides former superbazaar chairman Y. D. Rama Rao criticised the injustice meted out to Kakinada and attributed it to the complacency of local political leaders. They cited as to how in the past the music college was shifted to Rajahmundry even though Srirama Samajam in Kakinada had the requisite infrastructure for being upgraded into a college.

They said Kakinada had already grown into an education centre with many colleges including medical and engineering colleges functioning in the city and also the Andhra University PG centre on the city outskirts.

Though the city was suitable in all aspects and the screening committee favouring its location here, they regretted that the Government had decided otherwise.
