VISAKHAPATNAM: The Department of English of Andhra University will organise an international seminar on "Psycho dynamics of women in the post-modern literature of East and West.''

The seminar, beginning on Saturday, will be inaugurated by U. Tataji,
Vice-Chairman of the Andhra Padesh State Council of Higher Education. L. Venugopal Reddy, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor, will be the chief guest and Veena Noble Das, Vice-Chancellor of Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalayam, will deliver the keynote address.
Giving details at a press conference here on Thursday, V.C. Sudheer, Head of the Department of English, and seminar convenor S. Prasannasree elaborated on the theme. They said it would focus on women expressing themselves freely by being faithful to their emotions and without regard to societal restrictions.
The post-modern period relates to the later half of the 20th century with a state of ambivalence where there was no complete surrender to science or dogma.
In contrast to catacombing her feelings in the past, there had been a change in the perception. "Now woman has an identity and is able to express herself without masking her feelings on a host of issues,'' Prof. Prasannasree said. Works of several authors including those of Kamla Das, Tasleema Nasreen, Shashi Deshpande, Suniti Namjoshi and Bharti Mukherjee would be discussed. The theme has been divided into 12 sub-themes.
The seminar convenor said that some 250 delegates were expected to attend the seminar. Delegates from Ethiopia, the UK, Canada and South Africa from other disciplines like economics and journalism are expected to participate.
She wanted all foreigners in Visakhapatnam to register themselves and participate in the seminar in view of its importance.
