Action sought against education official
KURNOOL: The headmaster of the upper primary school at Amruthapuram in Halaharvi mandal of Kurnool district is alleged to have sexually harassed five girl students of the school, who were all aged around 10 and below.
According to the villagers, the headmaster sent away all the boys and asked a few girls to stay back and tried to allegedly molest them. The villagers who learnt about the incident, complained to the Mandal Education Officer Siva Ramaiah but he is alleged to have admonished the girls and told the parents that the children were misleading them.
When the villagers were prepared to formally complain to the higher authorities, a doctor from Bellary who was related to the headmaster offered an amount of Rs 2 lakhs to the victims' families to drop the case.
Charge against Congress
The TDP took up the matter accusing the local Congress leaders of backing the headmaster in order to hush up the case, which would be embarrassing for the Government. TDP leaders Somisetty Venkateswarlu, State vice-president of SC Cell Bangi Anantaiah, Vaikuntam Prasad and Prabhakar demanded action against the MEO and the headmaster.
The girls who were produced before the press narrated their ordeal. Later, the TDP leaders staged a rasta roko demanding action against the two.
Mr. Venkateswarlu said the TDP would launch an agitation on Sunday if no action was taken immediately. A memoradum was presented to the Collector and DEO.
