Kisan mela to celebrate the occasion
KARIMNAGAR: The regional agricultural research station in Polasa village of Jagtial mandal, established in the year 1980 to conduct research on all aspects of agricultural and horticultural crops to improve productivity, quality and utility, is celebrating its silver jubilee on Sunday by organising a kisan mela.
Minister for Agriculture N. Raghuveera Reddy, Minister for Forests Vijayarama Rao, ZP chairman K. V. Rajeshwara Rao, Jagtial legislator T. Jeevan Reddy, Collector C Parthasarathi and others would participate in the celebrations.
The station is working as headquarters of north Telangana zone comprising 12 research stations, five DAATT centres (Eruvakas), four krishi vignana kendras, two agricultural polytechnics and catering to the needs of farmers of Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Warangal, parts of Khammam, Medak and Nalgonda districts.
Though established in the year 1980, it started functioning from the year 1983 in a farm area of 61.67 hectares. The institute has 22 scientists drawn from various disciplines including agronomy, soil science and agricultural chemistry, plant physiology, genetics and plant breeding, entomology, plant pathology and horticulture.
