The herbally-treated variety is safe for diabetic patients
Rajahmundry: The herbally-treated rice for diabetic patients, DIA Rice, was released by Minister for Roads and Buildings J. Ramamohana Rao on Sunday. In an inaugural ceremony organised by Annapoorna Traders of Prakash Nagar in Anam Kala Kendram, the Minister said that 30 per cent of the patients in the country were diabetic and was affecting even children below ten years of age. He said that there was no substitute for rice for south Indians, but doctors strictly advised diabetic patients against consuming rice as it had high cholesterol content. He said that the special variety of rice produced with the support of herbals was recommended for the patients and appreciated the efforts of Annapoorna Traders for bringing it to the Rajahmundry market.
Giving details about their product, K. Satyanarayana and V. Kondala Rao of Annapoorna Agencies said they had taken up statewide distribution of DIA Rice which would be supplied at Rs. 58 per kilogram.
MLA Rowthu Suryaprakash Rao was also present in the meeting.
