It will be alloted 50,000 square feet on lease

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Sri Lankan apparel company, Brandix, is expected to launch its operations in the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone at Duvvada. It will be alloted 50,000 square feet on lease at the Duvvada SEZ to enable it to start production.

The State Government entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Brandix in July last for setting up the Apparel City in the Special Economic Zone at Achyutapuram (ASEZ). About 1,000 acres of land will be allotted in the ASEZ for setting up the Apparel City.

Teams from Brandix have already visited the site. The Apparel City is planned for development in four years spending a total of Rs.500 crores and providing employment to 60,000 persons. A technical team is arriving in Hyderabad on Wednesday for discussions, it was learnt. The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Nirupama Rao who was in the city last month also visited the SEZ at Duvvada.

However, efforts to create infrastructure at Achyutapuram are also going on, say sources. While the infrastructure is being readied as of now to facilitate faster production by Brandix, it no doubt will be useful to the other units coming up at Achyutapuram, point out the sources. About 20 acres of land has been transferred to Transco to set up a sub-station. Also, a four-lane road is being laid from Achyutapuram village to the SEZ. Tenders have been floated for laying the road at a cost of Rs.8 crores.

Two units are also gearing up for starting production at the Apparel Promotion Park (AEP) at Vadlapudi near Gajuwaka, it is learnt. The AEP has a total of 71 plots.
