Hyderabad: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy is planning to ask the Election Commission to consider revising the dates of the byelection in Visakhapatnam-I Assembly constituency.

The Election Commission has fixed March 25 for the re-poll unmindful of the SSC examination. Class X students will be taking their English-II paper examination on the day. Minister for School Education N. Rajyalakshmi has taken the matter to the notice of the Chief Minister. In all, eight polling stations are located in school buildings in the constituency and it may adversely affect the prospects of students disturbing their examination schedule.

After securing the details from them, Dr. Reddy wrote to the Election Commission to adjust the dates so as the examination schedule is not disturbed. "In case it (EC) pleads helplessness, then we will make alternate arrangements for the students," he said.

TDP denial

Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu asserted that his party had not violated the model code of conduct in the byelection and it would explain the facts to the Election Commission while responding to the latter's notice. "We respect the Election Commission and we will respond to the points raised by it ," he said addressing a press conference.
