Failure in exam led her to take extreme step

HYDERABAD: A seventeen-year-old girl V. Jyothi Rani who reportedly failed in intermediate second year exams committed suicide by setting herself afire in her house at Kushaiguda.

The victim had no father. Her mother V. Renuka Devi was working as a labourer in an electric company. Rani studied intermediate in a private junior college at ECIL.

A few days ago, Rani, along with her mother, went to her grandmother's house in Nagaram village of Keesara mandal.

As exam results were announced, Rani came back to her house at Navodayanagar in Kushaiguda on Monday morning while her mother stayed back. "Apparently depressed on realising that she failed in the exams, the girl doused herself in kerosene and set herself ablaze around 9.30 p.m.," Kushaiguda Sub-Inspector Srinivas Reddy said.

Neighbours shifted her to the Gandhi Hospital with serious burns where she died in the early hours of Tuesday.
