VIJAYAWADA: The Krishna district administration will resume `Operation Kolleru' on Thursday. The lake is spread over 20,000 acres in the district.
The lake was occupied by some private people, who had converted it into fish tanks.
During the earlier phases of `Operation Kolleru,' the district administration blasted tank bunds spread over 6,000 acres by using explosives. Encroachments in the remaining 14,000 acres will be removed in the current phase of the operation.
This time, the demolition will be done by using earthmovers. "There is no need for using explosives now. Since it is expensive, we have decided to do it by using earthmovers," said Krishna district Collector Navin Mittal on Wednesday.
He said that there was no need for deploying additional police forces from neighbouring districts to ensure smooth conduct of the operation, as the forces available in the district were sufficient.
