NELLORE: Customers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) mobile telephone services has something to cheer about. Five hundred more base transmission stations (BTS) will soon be commissioned across the State for better mobile connectivity.

"With complaints pouring in about mobile phones not functioning properly, the BSNL has decided to commission sufficient number of BTS by July end across the State," BSNL Chief General Manager, Andhra Pradesh Telcom Circle, J. Ramachandra Rao told reporters on Thursday. Besides, the move would enable the organisation to give one lakh more additional mobile connections in the State, he said. Mr. Rao said that 46 towers were commissioned in Nellore district, in which 12 were in Nellore Municipal Corporation. Another nine sites would soon be commissioned at Tada, Chejerla, Sitaramapuram, Varikuntapadu, Valluru, Gowaravaram, Chittamur, Vidavalur and Doravari Satram.

Awards presented

The official said that broadband connections would be extended to all major towns in the State in a phased manner.

Earlier, the CGM presented Bharat Sanchar Sarathi awards to R. Venkataiah, Mohd. Musthaq Ahmed, B.V. Subbaiah, R. Amarnath and P.C. Rani as well as Sanchar Seva Padak awards to K. Paramjyothi, C. Jay Shanmugam and V.V.L. Ramesh Babu.

General Manager, BSNL Nellore Telecom district, C.V. Ratnam and other senior officials were also present at the awards ceremony.
