HYDERABAD: Congress activists and relatives of a woman who was found murdered in a lodge at Pondicherry on March 26 on Wednesday staged a demonstration in front of the Uppal police station demanding the arrest of the accused.

Scores of women led by State Mahila Congress president Ganga Bhavani squatted on the road and raised slogans against the police for their failure arrest the culprits who killed Sujatha, 26, of Ramnagar. The activists burnt the effigy of the murdered woman's husband.

Traffic came to a standstill at the busy junction for more than an hour. However, the agitators were pacified after Malkajigiri ACP G. L. Hari Chander assured them that action would be initiated taken against the accused at the earliest. He reminded them that their counterparts in Pondicherry were investigating the case. Sujatha's relative Krishna Reddy told reporters that the victim's husband allegedly used to harass her for more dowry.
