Tadepalligudem division tops the district by achieving 92.9 per cent pass percentage in the SSC examinationConcern over dropout rate despite several initiatives

ELURU: Although West Godavari district ranked first in the State in terms of pass percentage in the recent SSC public examination, it, however, failed to figure in the list of top 10 rankers at the State level, District Education Officer P. Parvati has observed.

"Pratibha" awards were presented to 24 students who scored highest marks in the 10th and 7th class examinations in the district. Nineteen teachers from various Zilla Parishad schools and a host of officials from the Education Department, including the District Education Officer, were honoured for their contribution to the district securing first place in the SSC examination at the State level.

The DEO said 120 out of 515 schools in the district achieved 100 per cent pass percentage in the 10th class examination. Tadepalligudem division topped the district by achieving 92.9 per cent pass percentage, she added.

First class for tribals

She said 80 per cent of students in tribal welfare residential schools got first class, 17 per cent passed in the second division and 3 per cent in the third division.

Hailing the students and teachers for bringing laurels to the district in the 10th class examination, the DEO stressed the need to give top priority to quality improvement.

Ms Parvati expressed concern over the incidence of dropout in schools in spite of several initiatives.

When 49,500 students were enrolled in 7th class last academic year, 47,000 of them only appeared for the examinations, indicating the dropout of 2,000 students by the time of annual examinations, she said.
